Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes unusual shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. These shifts range from emotional highs (mania or hypomania) to lows (depression).
Symptoms of a Depressive Episode

Symptoms of a Hypomanic Episode
Similar to mania but milder
Increased energy and activity
Elevated mood or irritability
May still function in daily life but others notice the change
Types of Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar I Disorder – includes at least one manic episode, often with depressive episodes
Bipolar II Disorder – includes at least one hypomanic episode and one major depressive episode
Cyclothymic Disorder – includes periods of hypomanic and depressive symptoms lasting at least two years
